<quote>Controversy continues over Chirio Inaccurate letter from President for upgrade says GAO</quote>

The issue of the delay in the upgrade of the Chirio Stadium is evolving into a confrontation through letters, with the Olympia Gymnastics Club responding to a recent letter from the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, Peter Demetriou.

Mr. Demetriou, in a letter on December 13, had set out facts and dates, blaming the GAO for the entire delay in the commencement of works to upgrade and maintain the stands and roof of the Tsirio Stadium, following the press conference hosted by the GAO last week due to the termination of the insurance policy on the part of the insurance company.

Yesterday, in an open letter to Mr Demetriou, the Board of Directors of the GSA spoke of accuracies and incomplete information "creating the impression that our Association paid on September 11, 2018, 45 thousand euros to the Limassol Municipality for a building permit for the project".

In response to the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic, the CSO said that "the problem was created because you had the thought and requested a decision of the CSO's Board for the demolition of one of the stands", adding that the CSO replied to the letter of the CIO, dated 2/3/2021, on 11/3/2021. Stating that on 6/18/21 the COA requested reconfirmation of the decision and the GAO responded on 6/22/21, the letter questions why it took 3 months and seven days for this confirmation.

In addition, the GAO Board notes that on five different dates the COA President expressed his intention to call a joint COA - GAO meeting to agree a common line in order to arrange a meeting with the President's office. "Unfortunately, we were again left with words," it added.

On the issue of the approval of the sponsorship for the upgrade of the closed circuit of the Cirio Stadium, the GAO Board noted that it thanked the CIO Board for its prompt response from the very first moment.

The GAO also finds it unfortunate that the Director of the Office of the President's Office referred to the termination of the liability insurance policy by the insurance company, "unless your effort was to diminish the authority of the new GAO Board of Directors."

He informed that he secured a better liability insurance policy almost immediately, with Lloyd's of London as reinsurers, and considers unfortunate Demetriou's reasoning that the termination of the policy was due to the removal of the insurance company's confidence in the new GAO Board, which took office on September 25.

He notes that the Association has lost confidence in the previous insurance company, intends to cancel all contracts with it and reserves its legal rights.

In its letter, the GSA Board provides a 40-point Annex with dates and facts in relation to the application for a building permit from the Limassol Municipality.

Source: CNA
