Church disturbs peace, claimed Tatar Backtracks on priest shootings

We already knew that the church disturbs the peace, tranquility and neighbourly relations of the "two peoples in the country", Ersin Tatar said, arguing that the church shapes politics, education and national issues in "southern Cyprus", is effective in instilling hostility in society and provocations.

As reported from the occupied territories, in a statement, the TC leader claims that the findings made in their commentary on the priests who participated in National Guard exercises were correct, however there were statements by the high-ranking priests that amounted to insults and threats and brought things to a completely different point.

Tatar was commenting specifically on the statements made by Metropolitan Vasilios of Constantia and Famagusta on Alpha TV yesterday. He added that the church and everyone should know their position and said that statements made against Turkish Cypriots and their elected leader are unacceptable.

In his statements to the T/C "news agency" Mr Tatar also said that they know how effective the church has been in instilling hostility against the TCs in society, and in the Union and the Akritas Project. "This is still going on. The church, which is not challenged by anyone, is racist, has extreme Hellenistic thinking, puts orthodoxy above issues, influences all kinds of political power in the south," he claimed."

The T/C "people", he continued, are not malicious, they are tolerant. "In us there is no hate speech like in the E/C." T/Cs, he said, want peace and tranquility and reasserted that peace came to the island in 1974.
