Investigation into the circumstances of the death of the unfortunate 81-year-old woman The bottle with the caustic liquid found next to her was received for tests Depositions taken by the Nicosia CID

With the taking of statements from the medical and nursing staff, Nicosia CID has begun investigating the death of the 81-year-old Greek Cypriot woman, as the circumstances under which it occurred leave questions.

The woman breathed her last in the early hours of Thursday morning.

As reported in a previous Cyprus Times article, the unfortunate woman was being treated in the covid ward of Nicosia Hospital, however her death was not caused by coronavirus.

A caustic liquid was found next to her, which reinforced suspicions that she may have drunk it, either on her own or someone may have given it to her, thinking it was water.

The Cyprus Times was informed that the bottle was received in order to be sent for tests.

It is recalled that when the case became known yesterday, the police were immediately instructed to carry out an autopsy within a short period of time. Necropsy on her body was carried out on Thursday afternoon by the coroner Angeliki Papetta, who took samples for histopathological and toxicological tests, in order to reveal the exact cause of death of the elderly woman. The results from the state chemistry laboratory are expected to be helpful in the investigation of the case.

It is noted that currently, no complaint has been made to the police.
