He added that "the project is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union at a rate of 85% through the Operational Programme "Competitiveness and Sustainable Development" and 15% from national resources."

The object of the contract, Karousos explained, "is to provide services for the development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the free Famagusta Province, which will take into account all relevant integrated projects and plans, studies and projects that are being promoted, as well as those that have been implemented. According to the Minister, "the main axes in urban mobility issues are unified spatial, urban planning and transport planning, the use and development of the transport infrastructure of cities and the use of public transport, the redevelopment of urban space, with the promotion of soft and active forms of mobility and the support and use of technology."

The aim, he concluded, is "to improve the living conditions and daily life of the residents of the free Famagusta District, providing the necessary resources to meet the objectives of sustainable development and social cohesion."

Yannis Karousosos also noted that "the study will make a great contribution to the development of tourism as it is known that tourists, when they travel, prefer and preferentially choose Green Cities, cities or areas with public transport. This is something that will contribute in its own way and role to the development of tourism in the wider region."

Moreover, Anna Karamontani, who signed the contract on behalf of the Consortium "Mobilityinchain Srl + A.L.A. Planning Partnership Consultancy LLC", said that this study is of particular importance for the free province of Famagusta "because it is an area where there is tourism and tourists want the Green Cities."

He noted, however, that "the study can be finished in a year but what is needed next is that there is also political will so that any action plan that comes out of the study can be implemented. My wish is that the study will not be finished and put on a shelf," he said

In his remarks, Paralimni Mayor Theodoros Pyrillis expressed satisfaction with the signing of the contract because, as he explained, "now the free province of Famagusta is recognized as having rights. These studies were done for the other cities 5-6 years ago and several actions have already started and are being implemented."

Referring to the Green Cities, he said that "we now have the blue development and this study will help a lot to specialize and implement projects in our province as well. It is not possible for the residents of communities with 5 and 10 thousand population not to be able to move safely by bicycle or on foot."

Moreover, the Mayor of Ayia Napa Christos Zannettou described the study as "important. We want to be optimistic that in the free province of Famagusta, which for so many years has been deprived of the implementation of projects and which is 90% related to tourist activity, we will see actions being implemented."

At the same time he expressed the hope that "with the contribution of the state and the government, through this study and strategic development, we will be able to implement, upgrade and further support the entire province which is based on seasonality."

At the same time he expressed the hope that "with the contribution of the state and the government, through this study and strategic development, we will be able to implement, upgrade and further support the entire province which is based on seasonality. Such actions will put the free province of Famagusta on another level of attracting and different forms of tourism, but also developing the quality of living standards of the citizens", he noted. Zannetou that "with the projects that are being implemented, with the support of various Ministries and the government, the free province of Famagusta is being upgraded wisely, something that is rewarding both for the citizens and for the economy of the place."

For his part, the Mayor of Xylofagou Georgios Tasou said that "every study is necessary which aims at the progress and development of the wider area of Famagusta. I am sure that all the work that has been and will be done in order to complete the study, will not remain in words or signatures, but will bring the results that we all expect".

He also said that "the free Famagusta region is a progressive entity, it is the main recipient of the largest percentage of tourism that arrives in our country and what we have signed today to be done, the tourists already have it in their own countries".
