According to list of the 20 largest earthquakes that occurred in January 2022, the first place is occupied by the 6.8 Richter earthquake that occurred on the 11th, north of the Pacific Ocean, near Alaska, USA.

The second largest earthquake (6.6 Richter) was recorded in the Indian Ocean near Indonesia on 14 January, while the third largest occurred again on 11 January in the north Pacific Ocean, near Alaska in the US, about an hour after the first.

Recall that the January 11 earthquake was one of the largest earthquakes recorded in Cyprus.

Specifically, the earthquake was 6.1 on the Richter scale and was centred in the maritime area of Cyprus, 50 kilometres west-northwest of Polis Chrysochous with a focal depth of 25 kilometres.

The earthquake was strongly felt throughout Cyprus, particularly in the province of Paphos.

According to reports from the Geological Survey Department, a similar scale earthquake had occurred in 1995, again centred in the sea area north-west of Polis Chrysochous, resulting in several disasters being recorded in Paphos as well as two of our fellow human beings losing their lives.

Specifically, it was the same type of earthquake, however, at that time the damage was caused due to it being closer to the coast.
