The "test to stay" goes ahead When is it expected to be implemented in schools - Educational Organizations question its operation
No The Ministers of Education and Health have backed down and in the coming days the new "test to stay measure"[/B] is expected to be implemented in schools.
Ministers informed parents' and teachers' organisations yesterday, Monday, that the measure would be optional, and explained that mobile units from the Ministry of Health would go to all schools.
Further details are expected today on the implementation of the measure which the Cyprus Times Times understands is intended to be implemented from next Monday.
Controversy from educational organizations continues
Speaking to the Cyprus Times on the part of OELMEK, Themis Polyviu pointed out that second thoughts should be given, as there seems to be double dealing in close contacts.
"On the one hand we are told that outside of schools close contacts should be isolated and in schools the children will go to school normally. We continue to believe that this measure will hardly work[/B] and we have our doubts," he said.
At the same time, the PDOED expressed its objections and concerns at yesterday's meeting, according to the organization's General Secretary, Harris Charalambous.
As Mr.Charalambous points out, the PDOED has its objections to the usefulness of the measure. "Some answers given to our concerns satisfied us and some did not, but I personally believe that it will be a measure that will not add to safety and could have been avoided."
Both the PDOED and OELMEK are expected to raise the issue again at their Boards of Directors in order to make decisions on next steps.
In any case, a call for tenders is currently underway in order for the samplers who will staff the rapid test crews to express their interest.
