Supreme Court rejects appeal of 2 doctors for removal of their specialty Satisfaction of "Medical Shield"
The Supreme Court recently rejected the appeal of the two brother doctors, in relation to the recognition of their specialty title.
It is recalled that the Administrative Court had upheld a decision of the Cyprus Medical Council, which revoked the recognition of the specialty title of the two sister doctors from Belarus.
It is noted that initially the Medical Council had recognized on 19/2/2015, after the submission of certificates, the specialty of the two women as general practitioners.
However, following a complaint by the husband of one of them that she was not in Belarus on the specific dates, when she had stated that she was attending her postgraduate training, but in Cyprus, the Medical Council sent the complaint to the police, who opened a criminal file.
Finally, the Medical Council decided to revoke the recognition of the specialty to the two sisters in a letter dated 30/1/2019 and as a result of this decision the two sisters registered an appeal challenging it.
The decision to reject the appeal of the two doctors was taken by the Supreme Court on 1 February 2022.
In a statement today, the "Medical Shield" Initiative Group, a collaboration of the Cyprus Federation of Patients' Associations (CPSA) with volunteers and partners, welcomes with absolute satisfaction the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of the two doctors' sisters from Belarus, which definitively rejects their appeal against the decision of the Administrative Court.
The "Medical Shield" Initiative Group expresses its satisfaction, referring to "the correctness of the decision, which ensures the protection of public health."
It also states that the decision "fully confirms the well-founded positions that for years we have been pressing for measures to protect the health of citizens."
Moreover, on the occasion of the Supreme Court's decision, the "Medical Shield" Initiative Group calls on the competent Minister of Health, the Cyprus Medical Council and the Pancyprian Medical Association to take immediate actions, which are deemed necessary for the restoration and safeguarding of public health, bringing to their attention "the duty to uphold the legality of the two members of the medical profession, who have irregularly and illegally secured their registration in the Cyprus Medical Register and have acted in a fraudulent and deceitful manner in their capacity as medical practitioners, thus demonstrating conduct detrimental to the medical profession".
It also calls on the competent bodies to take all appropriate measures against the university of the third country, which appears to have participated in deceiving the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.
