Sufficiency in beds depends on the pressure of the pandemic, says OCYPY "Cyprus ranks in the category of countries that successfully coped with the covid-19 pandemic"

The sufficiency in beds depends on the pressure of the pandemic and the forced restriction of non-emergency procedures, states the Organization of State Health Services (OCPS) in a statement responding to some untrue statements and publications that ICU beds are secured through patient deaths, while as far as multi-resistant microbes are concerned, they are found in all ICUs around the world and we have an obligation to contain them, strictly following the appropriate medical protocols.

Specifically, he says that Cyprus ranks among the countries that have successfully dealt with the covid-19 pandemic, having the lowest mortality rate (0.4%).

It adds that in response to the pandemic, in addition to providing beds in common wards and NICUs, OCYPY developed more than 80 ICU beds, with the prospect of even more.

It also reports that since the beginning of the pandemic and to date, more than 2, 000 critically ill patients have been treated in the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital, regardless of diagnosis (more than 720 patients with covid-19) with excellent results, adding that as of November 4, 2021, there were 238 admissions, 104 discharges, 26 referrals to private hospitals, 24 transfers of patients to OCHS hospitals and 53 deaths.

He clarifies that the difference in numbers is also due to the development of new beds and that the adequacy of beds depends as expected on the pressure of the pandemic and the forced restriction of non-urgent procedures.

"Typical are also the international statistics that state that, for every 10,000 patients with covid-19 that the state had to take care of, the following deaths occurred: Germany 148, England 102, Israel 102, Israel 51, Denmark 33 and Cyprus 31," he adds."
