Storm of reactions in the occupied territories on the issue of the illegal airport The reactions of the leaders of the Turkish Cypriot parties
The possibility of changing the status of the illegal airport to Turkey's "domestic airport" is triggering a new political confrontation in the occupied territories. According to today's TC press, the "Prime Minister" is defending the idea of the modification while the entire TC opposition rejects the new plan.
As reported by the Press and Information Office, today's "Kibris" writes that "Prime Minister" Faiz Suzhouoglu said that by including the "airport" in Turkey's domestic flight regime, a reduction in ticket prices of 37 euros will be achieved.
Soutzouyoglu commented on the reactions following his reports on the matter the day before yesterday and said that these were unsubstantiated press claims that occupied Cyprus would become a province of Turkey. He also argued that the price of air tickets carries great importance for the economy and revenues of the occupied territories. He added that in his contacts in Turkey he discussed the issue of high air ticket prices and that among the alternatives for reducing prices is the possibility of evaluating the "airport" for Turkey's domestic flight status.
Reactions of T/C party leaders
On the same issue, Yeni Dusen reports that the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), Toufan Erhiurman, described as "lack of seriousness" the claims, as he called them, of the "prime minister" on the future status of the "airport". "You are talking about two sovereign states. Are these claims consistent with what you are saying?" asked Mr. Ehrhwarman, addressing Mr. Soutzuoglu.
Yeni Bakis on the "airport" issue writes that the leader of the Community Democracy Party (TDP), Cemal Ozyit, recalled the bankruptcy of the "Turkish Cypriot Airlines" and described the new discussion on the "airport" as "unacceptable".
Kimberly Postasi refers to the statements of the leader of the People's Party (PP), Qutret Ozersay, regarding the future status of the "airport". According to him, during the "election" period, no attention should be paid to such claims.
Haberator publishes the opinion of the leader of the United Cyprus Party (UKP), Izzet Izjan, on the same issue. Izzan argued that "with the lifting of foreigners' controls, the edifice called tdvk will become completely unsustainable". A similar view was expressed by the leader of the chairman of the Community Liberation Party-New Forces (TKP-YG), Mehmet Tsakitsi, according to whom by changing the status of the "airport" "the Turkish Cypriot people are abandoning the goal of self-government."
