AKEL Secretary General Stefanos Stefanou expressed his support on Wednesday as well as his recognition of the work carried out by the Pancyprian Confederation of Associations of Primary Education Parents' Associations, during a meeting he had with the confederation.

According to an AKEL statement, the meeting was also attended by the Head of the Education Sector of AKEL, MP, Christo Christofides.

During the meeting, it is stated, there was an update on the role and work played by the Confederation in public education. Special reference was made to the problems faced by Primary Education and schools in general, due to the pandemic in the last two years, it added.

Further, reference was made to the fact that the amending operating regulations of Primary Schools are not being promoted and are still pending at the Legal Service.

The General Secretary of AKEL, according to the statement, expressed support and recognition of the work carried out by the Confederation, stressing that AKEL is in constant contact with education issues and intervenes, through the Parliament and through the party's Education Bureau, with comprehensive proposals and suggestions on education issues.

"A typical example is AKEL's position on the immediate need to create a strategic plan to cover the gaps and solve the problems observed in schools, with proposals such as reducing the number of pupils per class so that remedial teaching can take place, strengthening the DRASE programmes for children in need of remedial teaching and the use of summer schools," the statement concludes.
