Police checks on the Infectious Diseases Law All information

The Police continue intensive checks on a nationwide basis, for compliance with the measures and implementation of the Ordinances of the Infectious Diseases Law.

Specifically, in the last 24 hours, 2,369 checks were carried out nationwide, of which 1,357 concerned safepass checks, while a total of 19 complaints from citizens and 17 complaints from establishments were made for violation of the measures.

With regard to citizens, the majority of the complaints concerned the non-use of protective masks.

With regard to establishments, the majority of complaints concerned managers and employees of establishments who did not possess a valid safepass, overcrowded customers inside the establishments, and patrons dancing, as follows:

Larnaca District

An extrajudicial notice to pay a sum of money, amounting to EUR 8,000, was issued to the manager of a music and dance centre in Larnaca District, after he allowed overcrowded customers inside the establishment, while there were more people at the tables than allowed.

Nicosia district



Out-of-court notice to pay sums of money, amounting to EUR 3,000 and EUR 1,000 respectively, were issued to the managers of a betting agency and a kiosk in the Nicosia district, after the managers were found to be working there without holding a valid safepass certificate. A patron at the betting agency was also found not to be a safepass holder.

At the same time, an extrajudicial notice to pay a fine of €1,500 was issued to the manager of the restaurant for allowing patrons to dance.

In addition, an extrajudicial notice to pay a fine of EUR 1,000 was issued to the manager of a food preparation area after she and two employees were found to be working there without holding a valid safepass certificate.

In addition, extrajudicial notices to pay a sum of money of EUR 750 were issued to the managers of a hairdresser (allowing an employee to work without a safepass) and a pizzeria (the manager was found to be working without holding a valid safepass certificate).

The managers of other three other establishments in the Nicosia district were also found to be working without a safepass, resulting in them being issued with an extrajudicial notice to pay a fine of 500 euros.

Also, the manager of a supermarket in the Nicosia district was issued with an extrajudicial notice to pay a fine of 500 euros, as he was not wearing a protective mask.

Limassol district

In Limassol district, an extrajudicial notice to pay a fine of 3,000 euros was issued to the manager of a brewery,

after he allowed overcrowded customers to enter, while the establishment in question did not have the necessary signage and patrons were found to be dancing.

In addition, extrajudicial notices to pay a sum of 500 euros were issued to the managers of two other establishments (supermarket and barbershop), after they allowed a customer to enter without a safepass certificate, as well as allowing overcrowded customers to enter.

In addition, the manager of the restaurant was issued an extrajudicial notice to pay a fine of EUR 750, after he allowed entry to overcrowded customers, while there were no appropriate markings on the premises and patrons were found to be dancing.

Paphos District

A nightclub entertainment file was formed for Court, as it did not have the necessary signage and did not have the necessary permits from the competent authority.

Finally, during an inspection of a establishment, also in Paphos district, it was found that persons working there were not wearing protective masks, customers were dancing, while there were no proper markings in the establishment

The Police reminds that the enforcement of the measures is not only the responsibility of the Police and other relevant public services, but it is the responsibility of everyone.
