Handcuffs were put on a 37-year-old from Nepal who was wanted for several weeks with a court warrant for illegal trafficking of migrants, as well as for cases of forgery and providing fake residence permit certificates to foreigners.
As reported by the Cyprus Times, the 37-year-old man allegedly assisted migrants to enter the Republic illegally and then provided them with fake residence permits on payment.
Members of the Nicosia Central Police Station investigating the case carried out searches at the 37-year-old's home where hundreds of documents believed to be fake were found with which he secured residence permits for illegal immigrants.
Investigators believe the 37-year-old is part of a ring that smuggles illegal immigrants into the republic, and are looking for accomplices.
The arrested man was earlier brought before the Nicosia District Court which ordered his detention for 8 days.
