Record abstention in "parliamentary elections" in the occupied territories
Record abstention was recorded in early "parliamentary elections" in the occupied territories.
At the close of the polls it was announced that the turnout was 58.23% while in the "presidential elections" in October 2020 it was 67.19%. There were 203,792 registered voters and 763 polling stations. There were 403 candidates, of which 131 were women, and 3 were independents. 8 parties participated.
The highest turnout[/B] was recorded today in the area of occupied Trikomou, where most of the settlers live, and the lowest in Nicosia, where the largest mass of voters reside and the opposition has more power.
The counting of votes began with the closing of the polls but the final results are expected to be announced tomorrow afternoon due to the delay in the counting of the mixed - horizontal vote as well.
With only 21 ballot boxes counted, the "supreme electoral council" announced the following percentages before 20.30: CEC 38.29%, PTK 27.12%, DK 11.29%, CL 4.96%, KDP 2.99%, CA 12.51% KCA 1.84% and Independence Road 1%.
Commenting on the first results showing the KDP staying out of "parliament", the party's general secretary, Khalil Hizal, expressed disappointment.
"Let's not hide behind our finger, this is a failure. It means we couldn't explain well," he said. Hizal estimated, speaking to Channel Sim, that they were affected by the abstention but also that some of their voters voted for the PTK to prevent the CEC's victory.
At a time when on the international scene the left parties are winning elections, it is not nice to discuss whether or not the CPC will enter the "parliament", he added.
Hazil left open the possibility of resignations in the CPC.
