The arrest of a 23-year-old resident of Xylofagos was made by members of the Famagusta Traffic Police during a routine traffic control in whose possession they found a quantity of dry plant material - cannabis.
Specifically on yesterday at 22.45 members of the Famagusta Traffic Police stopped a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old resident of Xylofagou.
During the check a strong smell of cannabis emerged and as a result in a subsequent search of the vehicle an open tobacco package was found in which there was a quantity of dry plant matter, i.e. cannabis.
The 23 year old was arrested for an offence and both he and his vehicle were taken to the Xylofagou Police Station where members of the Famagusta YKAN were summoned. A subsequent search of his vehicle identified another quantity of dry plant material - cannabis weighing 2.6869 grams.
It should be noted that the 23-year-old underwent a preliminary drug test with a positive result and saliva samples were taken for additional laboratory tests by the State General Laboratory.
The 23-year-old was charged in writing with his individual offences and released to appear in court at a later date.
The Famagusta YMCA and the Xylophagos Police Station are investigating the cases.
