The gunman escapes capture, while the victim, who was wounded in the arm and whose health is not in danger, escapes being shot a second time

Both the staff and patients of Jacob's Hospital in New York are shocked, following Tuesday afternoon's shooting in the emergency room.

According to witnesses and video footage of the incident, a black-clad man in a hoodie and mask waiting at the hospital's front desk suddenly pulled out a gun and shot in cold blood another blue-shirted patient who was in the hospital being treated for a previous injury.

The victim appears to run around the waiting area seeking cover as the stranger shoots him, while other people, including a woman with a child, are in the room.

The suspect then runs away and for now evades capture.


#BREAKING 1 person was shot at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx. According to NYPD, the shooting was not an active shooter situation but an isolated incident. As a precaution the hospital went under lockdown. No arrests, suspect at large.

According to authorities, the gunman was at the Bronx hospital around 12:30 p.m. (local time, 7:30 p.m. ET) seeking a friend who was arrested and possibly hospitalized there when he got into an argument in the waiting area with the victim , whom he appeared to know.

The suspect fired four shots at the 35-year-old victim, wounding him in the arm. The victim received immediate first aid and his injury is of no concern according to doctors, and local media reports that the 35-year-old survived a shooting last year.

After the incident, hospital staff asked management to install metal detectors at the entrance.
