Severe cold across Cyprus with temperatures below zero in the mountains.

Low pressure will temporarily affect the region, while a cold air mass is expected tomorrow.

Today, the weather will be partly cloudy at first, becoming gradually mostly cloudy, with showers in most areas and isolated thunderstorms. In the higher mountains it will snow at times. The phenomena may be intense at times. Winds will blow mainly from the southwest, initially moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, but later strong and onshore up to strong, 6 to 7 Beaufort with gusts up to 8 Beaufort. The sea will initially be slightly choppy to choppy, but will gradually become choppy to choppy and locally in the foreshore choppy. Temperatures will rise to 15 degrees inland, around 16 degrees on the coast and 3 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost will be observed locally.

Tonight, the weather will initially be mainly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, but gradually the phenomena will become local and later isolated. The snow depth at Troodos Square, at the time of writing, was 9 cm at Troodos Square.

The situation on the roads

The roads leading to Troodos (Platron - Troodos, Karvouna - Troodos and Prodromos - Troodos), as well as the roads Pedoulas - Prodromos, Kakopetria - Karvouna and Pedoulas - PINEWOOD - Kakopetria, are open ONLY for vehicles equipped with anti-skid chains or with four-wheel drive, due to frost.

Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution, drive at low speeds and keep a safe distance from vehicles in front of them.
