The situation at Limassol General Hospital is very difficult at a time when covid cases in the community have shot up and the positivity rate has risen to 1.7%. It is recalled that the possibility of taking new measures to stop the spread of the Omicron mutation in the community remains open.
Speaking to the Cyprus Times, the Head of the Covid Ward at Limassol Hospital Dr. Andreas Costis, in recent days there have been several heavy cases, due to the fact that citizens are late to go to the Hospitals.
At the same time he points out that at the moment out of 45 patients, there are 30 cases that are candidates for intubation, stressing that the possibilities are not unlimited.
"We are looking for ventilators now and the occupancy has reached 92% we have 3-4 beds left," he said."
As Dr.Kostis the next few days are considered important as there is fear after the festive tables, but also because of the increased numbers of cases this could translate into hospitalizations and inevitably patients end up
"Most patients are unvaccinated and we have cases from 22 years up to 88 years old. The medical and nursing staff are doing their best to take care of the patients."
However, the Health Minister has instructed that under the fear of Omicron mutation, samples will be taken from inpatients to see if those in the covid wards involve Omicron infections.

Speaking to the Cyprus Times and asked to comment on the situation in all hospitals hosting coronavirus patients, CSO spokesman Haralambos Harilaou said that Omicron does not seem to be affecting the hospitals yet, as there is a stability in the numbers of inpatients.
