On the agenda of the Transport Committee are road safety issues and the implementation of plans for Larnaca port-marina.

As DISY MP Fotini Tsiridou says, for DISY, along with others, it is a primary concern within the framework of its national strategy, as well as the pan-Cypriot development of the port and marina of Larnaca, amounting to 1.2 billion.

Ms Tsiridou noted that the first topic of discussion concerned the need to upgrade and carry out improvement works on the Kanto - Omodos road, which is one of the very important roads we have in Limassol, since it leads to all the wine villages of the city.

"In addition, the public works department said that they are also starting improvement works on the surrounding roads, with the addition of sidewalks, adequate lighting and the creation of two more bays within 2022 to allow trucks to exit. It was strongly pointed out that in order for these improvements to be made and accidents to be reduced, drivers need to obey the traffic code and not speeding which is most often fatal. The debate was catalysed by the Director of the Ministry of Transport who, among others, assured that solutions would be found as soon as possible. The issue will be brought back to the committee to present the proposals for the implementation of the project," he stressed.

At the same time, the DISY MP said that further, the committee was informed about the progress made regarding the plan to implement the development of the port and marina of Larnaca after the concession of the state port to a private investor. "The project is a pan-Cypriot development , which will not only become an attraction for residents of other regions but will also create many jobs. The Director General of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and the representative of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism informed the committee about the progress being made and pointed out that there are not any problems and all procedures are within the necessary timeframes. Today, the relevant final plan of this development (Master Plan) was signed between the Cyprus Ports Authority and the Ministry of Transport. The Larnaca port and marina development project includes investments by the private investor amounting to €1.2 billion" he concluded.
