Government officials are drawing up proposals to impose bans on meetings and eating out in England for two weeks after Christmas Day, The Times reports.

The so-called "lockdown to break the Omicron cycle" is thought to be based on measures in place in England in the spring, when the country began to relax its blanket ban.

t№6 This would mean banning meetings indoors except for work purposes and operating catering outlets only in their outdoor areas with orders at the table. Retail outlets and schools would remain open and while there would be no formal order for people to stay indoors, meetings would only be allowed in groups of six and only in open spaces.

t№8 The strict seclusion directive for the most vulnerable would return and a limit of 15-30 guests would be placed on weddings and funerals.

t№10 According to the Times, the plans have not yet been considered at ministerial level.[/p]t№10 According to the Times, the plans have not yet been considered at ministerial level. But some newspaper sources say that a possible recall of the House of Commons is planned next week to discuss the speculated measures, with an effective date of 27 or 28 December.[/p]t№12 According to the Financial Times, Prime Minister Johnson has accepted various proposals, from issuing a mild recommendation for people to avoid gatherings to a general lockdown.

t№14 Minutes from a meeting of the SAGE scientific committee advising the British government on Thursday, leaked to the BBC, show that its members have told ministers that to prevent the worst from happening, tougher measures should be adopted quickly. They said 2022 would be too late.

t№16 Public health officials in Britain have been alarmed by computer models showing that daily hospital admissions due to Omicron could peak in January at between 3 and 10 thousand. Right now it's about 900 a day on average. At the peak of the previous big wave of the pandemic, in early 2021, admissions reached 4,000 a day. Models estimate that with measures like last spring's, hospitalizations could be reduced to 1,500-5,000 a day.Source: CNAContents of this article including associated images are belongs
