UCLan Cyprus University and the Nicosia Multipurpose Centre Solidarity Network recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
In an online meeting held on Thursday, 3 February, the Memorandum was signed between the Mayor of Nicosia, Mr. Constantinos Yiorkatzis, and the Rector of UCLan Cyprus University, Professor Panikkos Poutziouris.
With the significant addition of UCLan Cyprus University, the Solidarity Network of the Nicosia Multipurpose Centre now has 49 members and its purpose is to promote cooperation between stakeholders as well as to create, strengthen and expand a functional and effective framework of cooperation, aiming at the social inclusion of vulnerable groups of the population.
"UCLan Cyprus University welcomes this initiative, as the Memorandum of Understanding with the Nicosia Multipurpose Municipal Centre opens up horizons for deepening and expanding our cooperation in the fields of education, training, research, innovation and launching new initiatives with the other partners in the "Solidarity Network Nicosia in Action", said the Rector of UCLan Cyprus University, Professor Panikkos Poutziouris.
Dr. Lilia Psalta and Dr. Vasiliki Christodoulou, welcomed the multi-level humanitarian work carried out by the Nicosia Multipurpose Centre and expressed their satisfaction for the collaboration of the Centre with the Postgraduate Programme in Empowerment Psychology and the Counselling Centre for Wellbeing and Psychological Support of UCLan Cyprus University. At the same time, they stressed the importance of student internships and volunteering through the provision of services such as social and psychological support to citizens.
"It is a great pleasure to see this effort, which started just a few months ago, attracting more and more members. We welcome UCLan Cyprus University to the Nicosia Multipurpose Centre Solidarity Network. We are confident that the scientific knowledge and experience of its staff will contribute significantly to the common effort to support our most vulnerable citizens", said the Mayor of Nicosia, Constantinos Giorkatzis.
The meeting was also attended on behalf of the UCLan Cyprus University by Prof. UCLan Cyprus. Irene Polycarpou, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Lilia Psalta, Academic Head of the Postgraduate Programme in Compulsive Psychology and Dr. Vasiliki Christodoulou, Internship Coordinator of the Postgraduate Programme in Compulsive Psychology.
Similarly, on behalf of the Nicosia Multipurpose Municipal Centre, Mrs. Stavroula Georgopoulou and the Programme Officer Mr. Marios Argyrou were present.
The Solidarity Network was created in the framework of the project "Solidarity Network Nicosia In Action" for the support of vulnerable groups of the population.

It is worth noting that since last June, when 35 initial members signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Multipurpose in a special ceremony, the Network has been expanding rapidly, as it now has 49 members.
The project is co-financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (Norway Grants) (85%) and by the Republic of Cyprus (15%) under the 2014-2021 programming period.
The project is implemented by the Nicosia Multipurpose Municipal Centre.
