The application process for the first phase of the Electric Vehicle Purchase Sponsorship Scheme

The application process for participation in the first phase of the Electric Vehicle Purchase Sponsorship Scheme was completed today, with the submission of a total of 4 applications.613 applications. Based on the large number of applications, the first phase of the Scheme is assessed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works as a success, with the number of approvals available for the first phase being exceeded in almost all categories. It is recalled that a budget of €8 million has been allocated for the first phase of the Plan.

With the implementation of the Plan, the Ministry of Transport is contributing to the implementation of the Government's policy of gradual transition to green transport and sustainable mobility and reducing the environmental impact of transport. The national target is for 25% of new vehicle registrations to be electric by 2030, with the ultimate goal of increasing this to 100% by 2035. The tremendous public response to the Electric Vehicle Purchase Sponsorship Scheme shows in practice that this target can be achieved.

During Phase 1 (December 20, 2021 - January 3, 2022) of the Plan, the following specific applications were submitted:

In the next few days, the evaluation of applications will begin and beneficiaries will be notified of the pre-approval of their application. As a reminder, if the application is pre-approved, the beneficiary has two months to provide proof of ordering the new/used electric vehicle and 12 months to register the electric vehicle. The grant is awarded upon registration of the vehicle, within 12 months of final approval.

Finally, in an effort to promote alternative modes of transport, other than car travel, the next steps of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works include the Electric Bicycle Purchase Grant Scheme, which will be implemented on 17 January 2022. More details will be announced at a later stage.
