The proposal concerns two categories of medicinal products

Under the urgency procedure, the proposal to extend the exceptional supply of medicinal products from the United Kingdom to EU countries that are heavily dependent on this market, including Cyprus, was presented before the plenary of the European Parliament today.

Specifically, as explained by Cypriot MEP Dimitris Papadakis, after the end of the transition period from Brexit and after the UK did not proceed with the adaptation of the protocols relating to the pharmaceutical market in the EU, the Commission presented in the form of urgency the proposal for a three-year extension of the exceptional supply of medicinal products to Cyprus, Malta, Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The proposal concerns two categories of medicinal products: medicinal products for human use originating in the UK and investigational medicinal products available in the UK.

The plenary in today's vote approved moving the matter forward as an urgency to the final vote on Thursday, the last day of its work, although it was stressed that for such important issues concerning the EU's internal market, the Commission should give the EP more time to consult and consider its implications.
