Private civilian cars[/B] are allowed to leave the besieged city of Mariupol, according to its mayor, Vadim Boychenko.

About 6.500 private cars left Mariupol over the past two days, but as no ceasefire had been declared they were forced out of the city while under fire, he added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky said the humanitarian corridor in Mariupol did not work yesterday and blamed the Russian military for not stopping shelling.

The Ukrainian authorities are ready to move to evacuate civilians but are not prepared to expose civilians to danger in street shelling, he added. However, those who can make it to Berdyansk, 70 km west, will then be transferred to Zaporizhzhya, he noted.

Always according to Ukrainian President Zelensky, over 6,000 Mariupol residents, including 2.000 children were evacuated from the strategic port in the past 24 hours.
