Euro-Turkish relations depend on Ankara, says the President of the European Parliament
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said that on the course of Euro-Turkish relations "the ball is firmly in Turkey's court", in response to a question on whether the EU, in the face of Turkey's threats against Cyprus and Greece, should toughen its stance towards Ankara.
In an interview published on Sunday by Phileleftheros newspaper, Metsola added that the EU is always ready, if all conditions allow, to move towards a more positive and more cooperative agenda.
Moreover, the President of the European Parliament, asked about possible threats to EU security from Russia's actions in Ukraine and EastMed developments, after noting that the real strength of the EU lies in its principles and unity, to which it must remain firm in order to remain credible and influential globally, stressed that the EU has more power than most people want to admit, which it must use wisely.
He further said that the EU is well prepared for the post-COVID era as the Recovery and Resilience Fund will help reboot after the pandemic, with a clear priority to achieve the green and digital transition.
The President of the European Parliament also said that the body she chairs must accelerate in turning declarations to promote EU climate neutrality by 2050 into legislation.
