His regret for the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the devastating consequences of a large-scale war in Europe, President Anastasiades expressed in a post on Twitter at the start of the extraordinary European Council meeting on new sanctions against Russia in Brussels.
"We regret the Russian invasion which violates the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine," President Anastasiades said.
"A large-scale war would be disastrous for Europe and beyond," he adds, stressing that "diplomacy is the only way".
"Cyprus stands in solidarity with Ukraine and its people," the statement concludes.
