Power supply interruption today and tomorrow in areas of Larnaca. The interruption concerns maintenance and upgrading of equipment that supplies the Dhekelia Desalination Plant and medium voltage equipment at the Dhekelia Transmission Substation. The community mayor of Achna, Nikos Vassilas, expressed his dissatisfaction to the Cyprus News Agency for the late, as he said, information he received from AHK.

The Cyprus Electricity Authority said in a statement that the electricity supply will be interrupted today between the hours of 08:00 in the morning and 18:00 in the afternoon and on Thursday 13 January between the hours of 08:00 in the morning and 16:00 in the afternoon in the following areas: Xylotympou, Achna Forest, Ormideia, Ormideia and Xylotympou Livestock Areas, Xylotympou Industrial Area, British Bases of Dhekelia, Refugee Settlement of AEC Dhekelia.

The outage concerns the execution of maintenance and upgrade works of equipment[/B] that feeds the Dhekelia Desalination Plant and Medium Voltage equipment at the Dhekelia Transmission Substation.

At the same time, it is stated that it is not certain that the power outage will last for the entire period of time, consumers should assume that their premises are live, i.e. that they have power for the entire period of time mentioned in the notice.

The Electricity Authority regrets any inconvenience, but this outage is necessary to carry out urgent work on the medium voltage network switchgear and takes place on the occasion of the shutdown of the Dhekelia Desalination Plant which is also scheduled on these particular days for maintenance purposes.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Achna community mayor Nikos Vassilas expressed his dissatisfaction with the late information he received from the EAC and stressed that residents were not given time to organise themselves which leaves their businesses exposed.

Nick Vasilas said the shutdown could have taken place in the evening hours so as not to disrupt the smooth running of the community.
