Power cuts in the occupied territories despite the transfer of electricity from the Greek side

Power cuts occurred today from morning until 1 pm in some areas of Morphou due to the fall of poles of the "electricity authority" due to weather conditions.

A statement from the "authority" added that the power supply may be restored earlier if the damage is repaired quickly.

Meanwhile, yesterday afternoon until 2 past midnight, there was a power cut in areas of Nicosia and Famagusta due to an explosion, it was announced, in the "electricity authority's" overhead network. The fault also caused a power cut in part of the illegal airport in occupied Tympou, according to a statement from the "electricity authority."

The faults and power cuts continue, while the "director general" of the "authority", Gurdjan Erdogan, announced that they continue to receive power from the E/C side. The outages, he added, are due to reduced investment, breakdowns and increased demand. He also said that in the areas of Kermia (Agios Dometios in occupied Nicosia) and Neapolis in occupied Nicosia, the breakdowns will continue due to problems in the infrastructure network there. Erdogan, the day before yesterday they asked for "southern Cyprus" in his words - 35 megawatts during peak hours, but due to problems on the E/C side they were given 10 megawatts and that is why there was an increased power outage the day before yesterday.

However, yesterday, they asked for 60 megawatts during peak hours, he continued, (between 16.00 - 23.00) and provided there is no problem in the infrastructure on both sides, this will continue until the end of the month.

In a statement, the workers' guild of the "electricity authority" (El Sen) said that the only reason for the outages is non-investment and rejected criticisms that the guild was to blame and that it was doing it to support the opposition ahead of Sunday's "parliamentary elections". "However, as always, we stand on the side of the workers' and patriotic forces," he said

The issue is on the front pages of today's T/C newspapers. Yeni Dusen writes in its editorial that production and consumption are not covered and, combined with a lack of investment in infrastructure and administrative mistakes, have, years later, once again led the pseudo-state into darkness. It also refers to insufficient production and maintenance of the grid and notes that the problem has been getting worse for a month.

Former "energy minister", Ozdil Nami told the paper that the "electricity authority" should immediately address the faults and the AKSA (Turkish-owned) power plant should address its debt problem. According to the unionist Ozkirats, AKSA's debts do not allow the repair of the production faults.

The "electricity authority" needs a power plant with a capacity of at least 120 MGW and four generators with a capacity of 17 MGW each, Ozkirats added. There is a problem with the transformers, they need to be completely renewed, he said.
