[Cyprus Times] Police raids on 3 premises in Nicosia. Thousands of euros in fines for undeclared work

Coordinated operations against illegal employment, illegal employment and undeclared work

Continuation of coordinated actions to combat illegal employment, illegal employment and undeclared work, were given by members of the Police, together with officials of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Security.

In an operation of checks, carried out earlier today, in three establishments in Nicosia district, a total of 26 persons were checked, one person, a third country national, was arrested for the offence of illegal employment, while notices to pay administrative fines, totalling EUR 22,000,[/B] were issued to three managers of the premises, in relation to undeclared work offences involving six persons found working in the premises.

Specifically, one person, a third country national was working illegally at one of the substations, and was arrested for a self-incriminating offence, with police also investigating a case of illegal employment against his employer. Another person was found to be working in the same substation, in violation of the Law on Undeclared Work, with Ministry of Labour officials proceeding to issue a notice to pay an administrative fine of 3,500 euros to his employer.

Another notice of payment of an administrative fine of 3,500 euros, was served on the manager of a second establishment, where a person was also found to be working in violation of the legislation on undeclared work, while a third establishment, where four persons were found to be working, also in violation of the Undeclared Work Legislation, was served with a notice to pay an administrative fine of EUR 15,000.

In today's control operation, members of the Aliens and Immigration Service - MA&M, the Police Headquarters and the Nicosia Police Directorate, as well as members of the MMAD participated.
