According to GRTimes' secure information, it all started at around 8 in the morning, when the Emergency Response Centre

received a call from a woman calling for help, managing to give only the address (without the exact location and area) as the man threatening her was trying to hang up the phone.t№14 From the centre, police officers were instructed to investigate all possible addresses, find the house to investigate a case of domestic violence and intervene if and when necessary. When two SWAT officers arrived at the scene, there was a woman's name on the doorbell, but it was never answered. Nevertheless

found a way to enter the apartment building and while going up the stairs they heard voices from inside a certain apartment.

t№17Immediately mobilizedthe police officers knocked on the door

in order to investigate the situation, when they heard the foreign man asking them to leave, explaining that he had no residence permit, and he did not hesitate to threaten them

shouting "I will kill you all".t№23t№25 They broke down the door and immobilized the perpetratort№27The police officers continued to persistently ring the doorbell as they listened to the screaming of the woman and the crying of the underage child, while informing the perpetrator that if he did not open the door they would inform the prosecutor's office in order to break in.

t№30 At the same time, the two police officers requested

reinforcement of theirforce which immediately rose to four with the response of the Republic Square vehicle, while an ambulance from the ambulance service arrived at the scene. When they heard the woman's heartbreak a second timethey finally broke down the door

Immediately the officers

instructed the perpetrator to drop the knife and surrender, however, while he stopped beating the woman,in front of the frightened eyes of the underage child, who is disabled, he turned the knife on himself andbegan to self-harmin the neck. At the right moment and before he could end his life, the police officers with timely and effective interventionimmobilized him,

removed the knife and then arrested him. In fact, during this attempt, one policeman tore his jacket while the other was wearing a bulletproof vest and was in no danger.

t№48The woman who was injured - fortunately lightly - in the neckwas taken by ambulance to the hospital on duty for first aid, while the alleged perpetrator was taken to the White Tower Police Station, where a preliminary investigation is being conducted.t№52When there is cooperation, police officers always do what they have to dot№55One of the participants of the coordinated intervention of the police officers of Immediate Action and the Republic Square vehicle was the representative of the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers, Babis Havenetidis, who, speaking to GRTimes, stressed the importance of direct cooperation between police officers on patrol on the streets.t№58 "It isbig deal to have good cooperation between the police officers patrolling the city.

We are on the streets every day, we see the rise of violence and when we cooperate we can prevent everything," he noted, adding that "the seriousness of the incident required us to intervene immediately and calmly. Two minutes later, he would have killed the woman and he would have killed himself".

In fact, the representative of PDASY does not fail to point to the increase in cases of domestic violence, stressing that "after the quarantine, and despite the tightening of legislation, such incidents, and in particular attacks and murders against women, have increased sharply.

Today's incident, however, is one that in 14 years of service I have never encountered beforei. I reiterate, however, that it is important that there is cooperation, as there is today, with colleagues. Only then will the police always be where they need to be. Only then will we stop talking about what the police have done, when the damage is done."t№70 Source: First Issue
