[Cyprus Times] Over 400 letters of reprimand to drivers in one day in Limassol Almost half of them for speed-zones!

A total of 410 traffic offences were reported in Limassol Control operation by the Headquarters Traffic Police Department

A total of 410 traffic offences were reported during controls carried out today in Limassol by members of the Headquarters Traffic Police Department. Notable are 66 complaints for using a mobile phone while driving, 55 complaints for non-use of seat belts by drivers and passengers of vehicles, and 110 complaints for speed limit violations.

The whole operation started at 6.00 am and was completed at 6.00 pm on Friday. It involved members of the Special Motorcycle Squad, members of the Road Traffic Accident Prevention Squad, the Avdimou Traffic Squad, as well as specialist members of the Mechanical Control Branch.

Among the complaints made, there were 38 complaints for traffic signal violations, as well as 32 complaints regarding the use of tachographs on heavy vehicles.
In the context of technical checks, six complaints were made for driving a vehicle without a Certificate of Fitness - MOT, while 18 complaints were made for driving a vehicle without a licence. Another 20 complaints were made about infringements of legislation on tinted windows in vehicles.

The focus of the checks was on black and dangerous spots on roads and the motorway in the Limassol district, while emphasis was placed on offences that have been proven to be among the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions, such as exceeding the speed limit, failing to wear a seat belt, and using a mobile phone while driving.
