More than 3,000 applications for the Electric Vehicle Grant Scheme Over 3,000 applications were submitted for the first phase of the Zero Emission Old Vehicle Decommissioning Scheme Figures released by the Ministry of Transport

According to the Department for Transport,a total of 3,008 applications were received in the first four hours.

In detail:

2,278 applications for a new private vehicle

229 applications for a used private vehicle

54 applications for a new taxi

5 applications for a used taxi



12 applications for a new wheelchair vehicle

3 applications for a used wheelchair vehicle

33 applications for a new multi-family vehicle

9 applications for a used multi-family vehicle 29]

200 applications for a moped or motorcycle 52 applications for a small road quadricycle 15 applications for a minibus 118 applications for a small commercial vehicle up to 3,500 kg (gross)

More than 3,000 applications were submitted for the first phase of the Hazardous Old Vehicle Decommissioning Plan

The application process for the first phase

of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works' Hazardous Old Vehicle Decommissioning Plan concluded yesterday, 20 December 2021, with great interest. The Plan is part of the Government's broader strategy for the integration of electromobility in Cyprus and the transition to green transport and sustainable mobility. It aims, inter alia, to achieve decarbonisation, as stated in the National Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030, which envisages the transition to climate neutrality by 2050.

From 6 to 20 December 2021,

a total of 3,145 applications were submitted by beneficiaries for the scrapping of polluting vehicles. More specifically, the following were submitted.

2,973 applications for scrapping and replacement with a new
  • private passenger vehicle
  • with an emission mass ≤50 gr/km CO2,
    16 applications for withdrawal and replacement with a new taxi vehicle
  • with an emission mass ≤50 gr/km CO2,
    25 applications for withdrawal and replacement with a new wheelchair accessible vehicle
  • with an emission mass ≤50 gr/km CO2,
    63 applications for withdrawal and replacement with a new multi-family vehicle
  • with an emission mass ≤50 gr/km CO2,
    51 applications for the withdrawal and purchase of a new electric bicycle (assisted cycling)
  • , and
    17 applications for the scrapping of an old vehicle in return for free tickets for use on regular bus services.


  • The amounts to be made available for the purpose of scrapping an old vehicle and replacing it with a new vehicle range from €7,500 to €12,000.

The processing of applications will begin immediately and eligible beneficiaries will be notified of the pre-approval of their application. Thereafter, and if pre-approved, the beneficiary will have two months to provide proof of ordering the new vehicle and 12 months to register it. The grant is awarded upon registration of the vehicle, within 12 months of the pre-approval.

Finally, it is recalled that from yesterday, 21 December 2021, and until 3 January 2022, the application process for the

first phase of the Electric Vehicle Grant Schemes

. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis based on the date of submission.
