At least twenty-one are the confirmed symptoms caused by the Omicron variant.

So while experts are trying to understand the new variant that is spreading at an unprecedented rate, more and more symptoms are being recorded from cases around the world.

In any case, investigations remain ongoing. As such, not all symptoms have been identified by scientists.

The top symptoms that have been confirmed

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the confirmed symptoms of Omicron are as follows:

- Fever or chills

- Coughing

- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

- Fatigue

- Muscle or body aches

- Pains in the muscles or body

- New loss of taste or smell

- Sore throat

- Congestion or catarrh

- Nausea or vomiting

- Diarrhoea

At the same time, the NHS (the UK National Health Service) continues to consider symptoms identified in previous variants to be of concern. In particular, based on the guidelines, these symptoms are:

- Back pain

- Lack of appetite

- Sleep paralysis

- Rash

- Night sweats

And while new scientific data is expected, experts point out that the key to treating the patient is identifying the symptoms. One such example is cited by Mumbai-based pulmonologist Dr Sanket Jain. One of his patients, he explained to the Express, was admitted five days ago with lack of appetite, nausea and vomiting. As per protocol, a PCR molecular test was done and it came out positive. "Such symptoms are seen at this time,especially in Omicron infections."
