The OELMEK expresses its support to the students' demand for the suspension of the examinations for the third grade of the third year of high school/technical schools for the current school year, in a statement regarding the protest event organised by the PESEM tomorrow, Tuesday.
"The OELMEK, from May 2021 until today, has raised the issue of the evaluation of senior students several times with the Minister of Education and the Education Committee of the Parliament, without unfortunately any response from the Ministry of Education, despite the fact that the parliamentary parties, except for one, adopted the positions and concerns of our Organization", he adds.
It notes that they have repeatedly called for the suspension of the four-semester final examinations for the third grade of high school/technical schools, for the current school year,[/b] so that on the one hand the graduating students could avoid the unnecessary and soul-destroying process of the three central examinations, especially in the midst of a pandemic, on the other hand, to allow time for dialogue with all stakeholders, in order to find the best way of evaluating them, which would satisfy both the school-leaving certificate and access to the Public Universities of Cyprus and Greece.
Moreover, says OELMEK, the fact that the three central examinations, in the space of only a few months, constitute a problematic procedure, "which serves neither the graduates nor our educational system, is acknowledged by the Minister of Education himself, who in a written note on 5.11.2021 speaks of simplifying the system and shortening the examination periods for the third grade of high school/technical schools".
"Therefore, the Minister of Education could adopt the common position of students, teachers and parents to suspend this year's four-semester final examinations for the third grade of high school/technical schools, relieving this year's graduating students from the soul-destroying process of three examinations."
