Interior Minister Nikos Nouris is leaving today for Vilnius, Lithuania, to participate in a European Conference on 20-21 January on the management of external borders.[/B]
According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior, the Conference will deal exclusively with the issue of security at European borders, in the light of the increasing migratory flows, as well as recent developments and challenges regarding the instrumentalisation of irregular migration for political reasons by third countries.
The Conference is expected, inter alia, to discuss ways to address the migration challenges faced by Member States at land and maritime borders, as well as explore possibilities to improve the return of third country nationals to their countries of origin.
During his stay in Vilnius, the Minister of Interior will, inter alia, have bilateral contacts with his counterparts from Lithuania, Austria and Denmark, as well as with other European officials.
Mr. Nouris returns to Cyprus on Saturday morning.
