New Yellow Warning "Diomedes" brings showers and thunderstorms Effective at midnight
A new yellow warning for prolonged showers and thunderstorms has been issued by the Meteorological Service.
The warning will come into effect at midnight and will remain in effect until 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 13.
According to the Met Office, "a combination of locally prolonged rain and possible isolated heavy thunderstorms are expected to affect the region at times, with total rainfall possible locally exceeding 55mm in 24 hours."

Tonight, the weather will be mainly cloudy and isolated showers are expected in places, while localised showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected mainly in the western half of the island. Locally, in the higher mountains it will snow at times. Winds will be south-westerly to westerly and occasionally locally up to north-westerly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, but occasionally in the west moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly choppy on the east coast, to choppy on the south and north coasts and choppy on the west coast. Temperatures will drop to around 6 degrees inland, around 10 degrees on the coast and around zero in the higher mountains, where frost will form.
Tomorrow, the weather will be mainly cloudy and localised showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, initially mainly in the western half of the island but later in other areas. Snow is expected on the higher peaks of the Troodos or locally in the higher mountains at times. Locally the phenomena are expected to be intense or prolonged, while a gradual improvement of the weather is expected in the evening. Winds will blow in the morning southeast to southwest and locally variable, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming after noon in the south and west southwest to west, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, but in the north, east and inland northeast to east, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will generally be slightly rough to choppy. The temperature will rise to around 17 degrees in the interior, around 16 degrees on the coast and around 4 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tomorrow evening, the weather will initially be mainly cloudy with local showers or isolated thunderstorms but later a gradual improvement is expected. Locally, in the higher mountains it will snow from time to time. Winds will blow northwest to northeast, initially light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, soon becoming moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort and locally in the foreshore strong, 5 Beaufort. On Friday, the weather will be mainly clear with locally increasing clouds at times, which in the afternoon hours will probably give isolated mainly light rain and locally in the higher mountains light snowfall.
