The Ministry of Health announces that today, 28 December 2021:


  • No deaths of patients with COVID-19 as the final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 630.
  • 168 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 84 are in serious condition. A 80% of hospitalized have no history of vaccination.
  • 15 postCOVID patients[/b] who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
  • A total of 98,047 tests for detection[/b] of the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test have been performed.
  • 2241 (positivity rate: 2.29%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by the molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 154,926.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of patients with COVID-19 were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 630, of which.

  • 402 males (63,8 %), and
  • 227 women (36,2 %).

The average age of those who died from the disease is 75.9 years.

B. Inpatients:

In total, 168 patients of COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 84 are in serious condition or in NSAIDs.



Of the 84 patients in serious condition, 27 are intubated, 8 are in an Intensive Care Unit off ventilator and 49 are in an Intensive Care Unit.

Γ. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 98,047 diagnoses performed, 11,803 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 86,244 by the antigen rapid test method, 2241 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:


  • 220 cases from 1,671 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
  • 76 cases out of 5,643 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 389 cases out of 4,068 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 26 cases out of 366 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
  • 1046 cases from 60,052 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 483 cases from 26,192 specimens tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
  • 1 case from 55 specimens obtained under the Personal Physician referral and special group screening program through the Public Health Clinics.

In detail, rapid antigen detection tests (rapid test) through the Ministry of Health's programme were carried out today as follows.
