A new negative record since the beginning of the pandemic was recorded today, in terms of hospitalizations of children in Makarios Hospitals who are ill with coronavirus.
Speaking to the Cyprus Times, Dr Abraham Ilias, Director of the Paediatric Clinic of Makareion Hospital, says that the paediatric wards are again filled with new cases of children with covid.
"14 children - from 4 months to 9 years old - are currently being treated in the pediatric wards, while two children are in the negative pressure ward. This is the largest number of simultaneous hospitalization of children with covid we have ever had," he said.
It is noteworthy that 50% of children in general who are hospitalized at Makarios Hospitals are covid cases.
As Dr. Elias points out, each child goes through the disease differently, as there are cases with underlying diseases, some severe and some milder cases. Due to the thousands of new cases of coronavirus in the community, this is also reflected in the hospitalizations of children.
