New emergency measures for pandemic decided by German government Ban on gatherings of more than ten people
New emergency measures to take effect from December 28 were decided at a meeting between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the sixteen state premiers in an attempt to halt the advance of the omicron mutation in Germany.
The key measures decided are that gatherings of more than ten people, including children, are banned, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not.
Also, all nightclubs are being closed, and all sporting events and football matches will be held without spectators.
It was decided to speed up procedures to introduce compulsory vaccination, with the issue coming up for discussion in the German parliament.
In a statement, Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted, among other things, that the pandemic does not take a holiday at Christmas and that unfortunately forecasts show that the omicron mutation will massively boost the number of cases in the coming weeks.
