Greece's attempt to gain arms superiority over Turkey is futile, Turkish Defense Minister says "Some politicians in Greece continue their aggressive actions and rhetoric."

Some politicians in Greece continue their aggressive actions and rhetoric, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said.

He described Greece's attempt to gain arms superiority over Turkey as futile.

Speaking at the Turkish military's Success Awards ceremony, he said that "e have problems with Greece in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. What we are saying is to solve the problems by peaceful means and methods through negotiations and dialogue within the framework of international law and good neighbourly relations. Unfortunately, some politicians in Greece continue their aggressive actions and rhetoric. They want to portray Turkey as expansionist with invented and artificial claims."

Referring to Kastelorizo, the Turkish minister said it is 1950 meters from Turkey a 10 square kilometer island. "They want 40,000 square kilometers of maritime jurisdiction for this island. When we say 'no' they call us 'expansionist'. We expect them to understand that they will not get anywhere with these actions and rhetoric," Hulusi Akar said.

The Turkish minister said they are waiting for the Greek delegation in Ankara for the 4th meeting as part of the dialogue and confidence-building measures. "We want the peoples of the two countries to live in security and prosperity by exploiting the existing wealth, but we expect them to understand that these reasons are never weakness," he said."

Hulusi Akar accused Greece of trying to gain superiority over Turkey by arming itself with the encouragement and provocation of certain countries. "This, we say, is a futile effort," he said.
