"Never war! Think, above all, of the children who are deprived of the hope of a decent life: children dead, wounded, orphans, playing with the remains of weapons...In the name of God, stop!" wrote Francis.
And the Vatican's prime minister, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, stressed that "war is madness, it must stop," adding that "one must have a heart of stone to remain indifferent and allow this massacre to continue, to allow rivers of blood and tears to continue to flow."
Parolin also wanted to underline that "since the fall of the Berlin Wall, we have not been able to build a new system of coexistence between nations that transcends economic interests and military alliances" and that "the ongoing war in Ukraine makes this defeat clear".
