The former Mayor of Geroskipou Michael Pavlidis was taken to his last residence on Thursday.[/B] In the early afternoon at the church of Agia Paraskevi, hundreds of friends and admirers of his work from all corners of Cyprus and Greece, as well as his fellow citizens, bid him farewell in an atmosphere of grief and sorrow.

Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Yannis Karousos in his eulogy said that he came to bid farewell to the Mayor not only as a Minister, but as a friend, colleague and former colleague.

He described him as a human, sincere and visionary man, an extrovert who enjoyed life.

The Mayor of Geroskipou Kyriakos Hadjivassilis said that Michael Pavlidis was a bright presence in Geroskipou who for many years offered community service to the local community and his fellow man, either through the positions he held or through his voluntary actions in which he participated.

Mr. Hadjivassilis said that the former Mayor fought battles defending the interests of Geroskipou without compromises and concessions and that he served his city with ethics, high spirit and faith in principles and values.

He said that in the immediate future the Municipal Council will take decisions to honour his memory.

The former Mayor of Agia Paraskevi Attica, Ioannis Stathopoulos, a municipality with which Geroskipou is twinned, also delivered a eulogy. He praised the contribution and work of Michalis Pavlidis.

The former Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, the Mayors of Paphos Province, colleagues and friends of the deceased were present.

The Evagoras Pallikaridis Cultural Association expresses its deep sorrow for the death of the former Mayor. The President of the Board of Directors, Andri Kanari, extends her sincere condolences to his family and notes his contribution and support to the Association.
