By decision of the Secretary of the Political Committee of the New Democracy party Pavlos Marinakis, MEP George Kyrtsos is removed from the New Democracy party.
As emphasized in a statement by the ND, "Mr. Kyrtsos, who was elected on the ND ticket, with a mandate from the voters to promote Greek positions in the European Parliament, is doing quite the opposite with his posts. He defames the country internationally by questioning the independence of the Greek judiciary and comparing Greece with states that violate the rule of law. By his attitude he insults all those who trusted him to represent them. To date, any criticism of the government has been tolerated, even if it crossed the line. But there can be no tolerance for defamation of the country.
More specifically, Article 5 §1 was applied.2 of the statute of the New Democracy, according to which the loss of membership occurs "With the voluntary withdrawal from the party, which is manifested by speech or action and is evident, for example by the registration in another political party, or by public manifestations that strongly oppose the ideological and political principles of the party or promote racism, hatred and violence or question the rule of law and the democratic parliamentary constitution of the country.
The determination of the contribution of the above is made by decision of the Secretary of the Political Committee."
