Concern about the reopening of the issue of the MEAs is expressed by G. Kolokasidis "Foreigners insist on the CSOs because they have adopted or are comfortable adopting the perception that the Cyprus problem is a bicommunal problem."

The candidate for the Presidency of the Republic expresses concern about the resurrection of the issue of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), George Kolokasidis, who says that Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides "suggests that pressure in this direction is being exerted by our partners, especially Germany, while President Anastasiades appears ready to offer new MOUs to appease enemies and friends".

He adds that "but Mr Anastasiades does not understand that the MEAs are a fundamental issue and foreigners insist on MEAs because they have adopted or are comfortable adopting the notion that the Cyprus problem is a bi-communal problem, so there is a need to restore trust between the communities".

In his written statement, Kolokasidis said "but the Cyprus problem is a different issue, it is an issue of invasion and occupation, therefore the Anastasiades government has failed to convince on the essence of the Cyprus problem".

He calls on the President of the Republic "even now, let him insist on measures against Turkey and let him campaign to convince this as well, leaving aside that the MoU itself is not innocent, but is aimed at upgrading the pseudo-state."

In another written statement regarding the cars of state officials, Mr. Kolokasidis said that this decision of the government "shows its attitude towards the institutions", adding that "the vehicles should have been given to state officials, not as a reward, but to be used to serve the public interest".

As Kolokasidis says, "the fact that the government is proceeding with this measure demonstrates one thing: that instead of thinking in terms of serving the public interest, it is thinking in terms of privileges for the statesmen and shows that politicians have learned nothing from the popular anger that was stirred up by the repeated scandals and impoverishment."
