The Municipality is taking measures after the collapse yesterday of a two-storey brick house in the centre of Aradippou. In an emergency teleconference of Aradippou Mayor Evangelos Evaggelidis and the Municipal Council, with the participation of the Technical Services and the Legal Advisors of the Municipality, a number of decisions were taken, such as the immediate notification of the owners to evacuate all dangerous or collapsing houses inhabited.
An announcement by Aradippou Municipality stated that a decision was also taken for "immediate marking of all dangerous or collapsing houses, in total 11 in number, immediate demolition of two of them, starting from February 2, 2022 and activation of all procedures for the demolition of the remaining nine within days".

The Mayor, Evangelos Evaggelidis said that "every year the reported shelters are checked and recommendations are made to the owners to take action. Unfortunately, in all cases there is not the desired response, which is why we are forced to take more drastic measures."
He also noted that the issue of brick-built sub-structures is faced by several municipalities in Cyprus and stated that their intention is to propose a meeting with the Union of Cyprus Municipalities and the relevant ministries "to address the issue in its true dimensions."
