Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides to Brussels for EU Foreign Affairs Council

Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will attend the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on Monday, where he will discuss the situation in Ukraine.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that on Monday morning, Mr. Kasoulides will attend an informal breakfast organized by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and hosted by the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani.

It is added that the Foreign Minister will then participate in the Foreign Affairs Council, which will focus, inter alia, on the situation in Ukraine following the ongoing Russian invasion and the EU's support measures for the country.

In addition, the Foreign Ministers will exchange views on the situation in the Sahel region, with emphasis on the next steps in relation to the Union's engagement in Mali.

Subsequently, a working lunch will be followed by an exchange of views with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu, while the Council will conclude with a joint meeting of Foreign and Defence Ministers of the Member States to discuss the EU Strategic Compass for Security and Defence.

At the end of the Council's proceedings, the Foreign Minister will participate in a special forum on improving compliance with International Humanitarian Law, organised by the French Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Drian and the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič.

According to the statement, on Tuesday, 22 March, Mr.Kasoulides will participate in the work of the General Affairs Council, where he will discuss, inter alia, developments in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe, the European Semester and the preparation of the forthcoming European Council.



The Foreign Minister will return to Cyprus on Wednesday, 23 March.
