Statements by Government Spokesman Marios Pelekanos on the meeting of the President of the Republic with Mr. Stuart
The President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades had a meeting today at the Presidential Palace with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Colin Stuart.
According to Government Spokesman Mario Pelecanos, during the meeting, the effort made by the United Nations to re-launch the negotiation process and the need to appoint an envoy with specific terms of reference based on UN parameters in order to create the appropriate conditions to implement the effort[/B] were discussed[/B].
Furthermore, the essential Confidence Building Measures tabled by the President of the Republic on 31/12/2020, which, as explained, will bring mutual benefits to the two communities while assisting in the effort to create the necessary conditions for the resumption of the dialogue.
They also discussed practical issues concerning the fulfilment of the Peace Force's mission in Cyprus.
The President of the Republic expressed our side's observations on the recent report of the Secretary General, and noted our side's satisfaction with the content of the resolution adopted by the Security Council on the extension of the mandate of the Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
