2-year-old child in Italy needs surgery, but parents won't accept blood from vaccinated donors

A young patient of just 2 years, admitted to Bologna's Sant'Orsola hospital, needs urgent surgery for heart failure.

His parents, who are anti-vaccinationists, but refuse to accept blood from donors who have been vaccinated against coronavirus. The doctors of Sant'Orsola, because of the urgency of the case, have asked the Bologna juvenile court to intervene so that the operation can be carried out as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, the boy's parents continue to look for unvaccinated blood donors online. Well-known Italian scientists stress that the request of the parents, originally from the town of Modena, "lacks any logical and medical basis".

"With transfusion, of course, the vaccine is not transmitted and the private search for blood donors can cause serious problems , because a number of basic scientific parameters are not respected," said Vincenzo De Angelis, director of the Italian National Blood Donation Center."
