The perpetrator was taken to the prosecutor and prosecuted for manslaughter Authorities are looking for a motive

The motive of the wild murder of the 79-year-old woman who was beaten to death by her 69-year-old husband is being sought by the police authorities in the new case of femicide in Ioannina.

At the same time, the forensic examination will shed light on the exact cause of death of the elderly American woman who, according to police authorities, met a martyr's death at the hands of the 69-year-old man in their own home on Sunday afternoon.

The assailant with incredible fury lunged at his American wife and used his fists to strike her in the face and body.

He initially tried to cover up his act by lying to police by telling them that his wife fell and was beaten. Earlier he had phoned a neighbouring person begging him to call the police and the ambulance.

When they arrived at the scene, however, the ambulance rescuers found that something was very wrong and informed the police.

"We received a call to go to a residence for a woman who was having some problem upon arrival there the ambulance, the ambulance rescuers along with the ambulance doctor, saw that a woman was not alive. The police and the coroner were informed and they went to the spot and from there they took over the case. There the crew decided that something strange was happening and they called the police," Thanasis Papathomas, president of the EKAB Ioannina association, told Mega.

When the officers of the Ioannina Security Department brought the 69-year-old man to the police station, he confessed to his actions.

"We fought like we did every time. Yes I hit her, but I didn't mean to kill her," the 69-year-old said.

The suspect was taken to the prosecutor and charged with manslaughter and is expected to enter a plea on Thursday.

There is much talk in the small street of Svolou Street about the couple, who had returned to Ioannina two years ago, as they lived in America for many years.

The couple had not concerned the police authorities in the past, but they allegedly had frequent quarrels. Tensions between the couple had intensified recently, according to people in the neighborhood.
