Increasing trends and new records of coronavirus cases in countries around the world

The increasing trend of daily infections recorded worldwide continues with some countries setting new records.

GERMANY

The confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 in Germany added 55,889 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 7,473,884, the Robert Koch Institute, the country's epidemiological surveillance body, announced today (Saturday). The deaths of 268 patients raised the country's pandemic death toll to 113,900.

SPAIN

Spain's 14-day positivity rate rose 148 points to 2,722.72 cases per 100.000 inhabitants, the country's Health Ministry announced, compared with 2,574.46 cases on Wednesday, the most recent figures released before a public holiday on Thursday. The number of cases increased by 242,440 yesterday compared to Wednesday. The percentage of hospital beds occupied by patients with COVID-19 stood at 11.79% yesterday. The occupancy rate of beds in intensive care units involving patients with COVID-19 increased to 22.06%. So far 15 million people have received the booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Spain, while 80.2% of the population has been fully vaccinated.

NETHERLANDS

Confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 reached 34,954 in the previous 24 hours in the Netherlands, an unprecedented level, the National Institute of Public Health (RIVM) announced yesterday Friday. The number of infections was up by 10,282 compared to the previous 24 hours. The rolling average of cases detected on a 24-hour basis in the previous seven days increased by 63% to 21,487. The increase in cases was recorded even though the Netherlands is currently on lockdown, which is attributed to the end-of-year holidays and the spread of the more infectious Omicron variant.



TURKEY

Turkey announced 63,214 new cases yesterday bringing the total number of infections in the country to 9,850,488, according to the Turkish health ministry. Meanwhile, the death toll from the pandemic in Turkey rose by 157 to 83,388, while 29,197 people recovered in the last 24 hours. According to Health Ministry data, 406,796 tests were carried out to detect the virus in the past 24 hours. To date, 135.61 million vaccinations, including booster doses, have been administered in Turkey.

LEBANON

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced yesterday that 7,974 cases were confirmed and 19 patients succumbed to complications of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours amid the spread of the Omicron variant. Lebanon of 6.7 million people counts 9,250 deaths out of a total of 761,853 infections since the pandemic outbreak.

INDIA

India's federal health ministry announced today, Saturday, that 141,986 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the previous 24 hours, the most since late May, and 285 patients had succumbed. As cases of the highly infectious Omicron variant are now beginning to outnumber those of Delta in some Indian urban centres, fears are growing that the country is heading for another health crisis similar to that of the spring.

BRAZIL

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Friday that 181 patients had succumbed to complications of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours and 63,292 cases were confirmed, the highest number since July 2021. Experts believe that the dramatic increase in infections in the last 24 hours is due to the spread of the Omicron variant. Officially, the death toll from the pandemic in Latin America's largest nation of 212 million people stands at 619,822 out of a total of 22,450,222 recorded infections.

MEXICO

The death toll from the pandemic officially surpassed the tragic milestone of 300,000 deaths in Mexico yesterday Friday. 28,023 cases were confirmed, the second highest number reported since the pandemic began, bringing the total to 4,083,118. The official numbers of victims and cases may be greatly underestimated, as health ministry officials have acknowledged. Some 60 flights were cancelled in Mexico the day before yesterday, Thursday and yesterday, Friday, as 87 pilots were infected with the virus, according to sources close to the aviation sector.

AUSTRALIA

Australian Finance Minister Josh Friedenberg said yesterday, Friday, that he had tested positive for the new coronavirus, as has been the case with other senior government officials in the country, just as the daily number of cases announced today topped 100 for the first time.000 amid an outbreak of the Omicron variant strain in the country.

SOUTH KOREA

South Korean health authorities announced today that 3,510 cases have been confirmed and 54 patients have succumbed due to complications of COVID-19. The pandemic toll in the Southeast Asian country has reached 5,986 deaths out of a total of 661,015 infections since January 2020 to date, according to data from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA). The mortality rate increased to 0.91%. Cases decreased slightly from the previous day (3,716).

Viet Nam

Vietnam's Ministry of Health announced yesterday Friday that 16,278 SARS-CoV-2 infections were confirmed in the previous 24 hours, with the total number of cases reaching 1,859,841. The deaths of 233 patients brought the official death toll of the pandemic to 33,877. By yesterday, 157.7 million doses of vaccine had been administered in the country of about 98 million people, with 70.5 million citizens now fully immunised and about 9.1 million people fully immunised. have now received a booster dose, always according to Ministry of Health figures.

MALAYSIA

The Malaysian Ministry of Health announced today that 16 patients have succumbed and 3,181 cases of SARS-CoV-2 have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. The death toll of the pandemic reached 31,644 out of a total of 2,780,080 infections. The so-called active cases decreased to 39,697. A first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has been given to 79.7% of the population, 78.6% have been fully vaccinated, while 23.2% have received a booster dose, always according to data from the Malaysian health authorities.
