An American who killed his brother by accident, as he was hastily loading a gun to shoot a bear, committed suicide, police in Oregon said.
The man, whose identity was not released, called 911 when the tragedy occurred.
"He called in that he had accidentally shot his brother as he was loading a gun because a bear had entered his property," the sheriff's office in Josephine County, in the northwestern U.S., said the day before Wednesday."
"When officers arrived, they found a man dead with a gunshot wound. Checking the rest of the house, they found a second man dead, with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," according to the same source.
An investigation is underway into the incident, which does not appear to have involved anyone else. "It appears that this man decided to end his life after calling 911," according to the sheriff's office.
It is unclear what happened to the bear.
According to NGOs, there is more than one gun for every U.S. resident, including infants. About 45,000 deaths are recorded in the country due to the use of firearms and accidents every year.
